About Us

Insulation Advice is a small, London-based organisation dedicated to helping people with domestic retrofit and insulation.

The founders Ben and Cam started the website having both been frustrated with the poor quality and contradictory advice available online while undertaking their own home improvements. This has since developed into a small business providing surveys and other tailored advice. Please feel free to contact us if you think we can help.

Our Team

Ben Curry

I’m a structural engineer (MEng, CEng, MIStructE) with 20 years of professional experience designing buildings and infrastructure. Through my design work I developed a strong interest in sustainability, and low-carbon design in particular.

My obsession with insulation started when I bought a cold and draughty Victorian house about ten years ago. This kicked off a multi-year project to transform it into a comfortable, low-energy family home. That process is now complete and it’s made a huge difference to our energy bills, quality of life and environmental impact.

There’s a bewlidering variety of insulation products on the market and I still remember the confusion I felt when starting out. I hope this website helps others to navigate the process and to avoid some of the mistakes I made!

Co-founder

As a structural engineer and passionate advocate for efficient use of energy and materials, I am keen to help support any scale of building or project reduce their carbon footprint. I am chartered with both the Institute of Structural Engineers in the UK (CEng, MIStructE) and Engineers Australia (MIEAust, CPEng & NER) and have also completed domestic insulation training following PAS 2030 and PAS 2035 focussed curriculum.

Through DIY in two flats I have lived in, I have realised considerable improvements with relatively modest interventions (draughtproofing, window lining and alternative space heating).

I hope the advice on our website is useful to anyone considering how to make their homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
